Gilbert Alexander Fraser
Gilbert Alexander Fraser
passed away at his home in Sutherlands River on August 26, 2008.
Born in 1923 in MacPherson's Mills, he was the youngest son of the late Alex. D.
and Jessie Ann (Holmes) Fraser. He was self-employed, operating
his own company, G.A. Fraser Maintenance Ltd.
Actively involved in
Sutherland's River Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder
and was Clerk of Session for 34 years. He received his 60 year
bar from Hudson Masonic Lodge in 2006. He was chaplain for many
years, and was a past District Grand Chaplain. He belonged to
Prentice Boys L.O.L. No. 76, Men's Fellowship Group of
Sutherlands River Presbyterian Church, and Seniors Friendship
Group, Thorburn. He sincerely enjoyed visiting residents of the
county nursing homes and patients in hospital.
He is survived by his
wife, Amelia (Ross), and children, Greg (Marion Johnston), Judy,
Peter (Debra McRae), Susan (Craig MacKay); grandchildren, Mark,
Grant, Emily, Fraser, Kelly, Peter, Erin, Matthew, and Cameron;
great-grandchildren, Riley and Olivia. He was predeceased by
brothers, Herbie and Harry, and infant grandson, Sandy.
The family will receive
friends from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in H.W.
Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Memorial service will be held
at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sutherlands River Presbyterian Church with
Jessie Johnson officiating, assisted by Rev. Glenn S. MacDonald.
Burial will follow in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
